We have three amazing optometrists at Newport Avenue Optometry.

Dr. Eli Ben-Moshe

Dr. Ben-Moshe specializes in hard-to-fit contact lenses, treatments of keratoconus, and post-surgical prescription correction at Newport Avenue Optometry.

He’s affiliated with the TLC Laser Eye Centers in providing both pre- and post-operative care for LASIK patients.

A member of the Ocean Beach Main Street Society, he does volunteer work with the Amigo’s Club and Lions Club. Dr. Ben-Moshe is married with three children.

Dr. Jared Hagan

Dr. Jared Hagan was born in Rochester, Minnesota, where he attended Mayo High School. Shortly after school he joined the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed at Fairchild AFB Washington and from there deployed to numerous remote locations. During his service, Dr. Hagan earned a Bachelors of Science in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical School and was honorably discharged. After obtaining the necessary prerequisite classes for Optometry School, he applied to Pacific University. Dr. Hagan was accepted to Pacific University’s College of Optometry in the spring of 2007. Optometry school consists of three years of rigorous academic study and one year of guided practice under supervision. After graduation, three board exams and annual continuing education must be taken in order to maintain a license to practice. Dr. Hagan completed his studies in 2011 and has been in full practice in the San Diego area.

Dr. Chris Johnson

Originally from Seattle, Dr. Johnson received his bachelors from Washington State University in 2005. He then gained experience in a busy medical Ophthalmology practice in Seattle, inspiring him to continue his education as an Optometrist. Dr. Johnson graduated from Arizona College of Optometry in 2014 and began practicing here in beautiful San Diego, trading the rain for the sunshine.

Dr. Johnsons’ excitement and passion for Optometry shows in his eye examinations. He is medically trained in diagnosing and treating surgical patients, treating glaucoma and managing diabetic patients. He enjoys fitting specialty contacts and providing the best vision care for the entire family here at Newport Avenue Optometry. Dr. Johnson is an active member in the American Optometric Association and the San Diego Optometric Society. He strives to stay current on the latest advances with technology in eye health and vision care.

In his spare time, Dr. Johnson has been a part of medical missions to Belize and Mexico, providing free vision care and glasses to underserved areas. He enjoys playing softball, running, hiking and going to Padres games.
